The series will chart Messi's journey from his international debut to Qatar, via several World Cup failures and even early retirement. It also promises 'the most personal interviews to date with Messi, alongside conversations with teammates, coaches, competitors, devout fans and commentators.'

Last year's showpiece saw the 36-year-old inspire Argentina to victory in the desert. Argetina lost its opening game of the tournament against Saudi Arabia before Messi dragged his country to the final.

There, against a France team led by Kylian Mbappe, Argentina triumphed on penalties after a dramatic 120 minutes at Lusail Stadium.

Victory in Qatar was the crowning moment of Messi's glittering career and seven months later, the 36-year-old joined Major League Soccer.
