Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson suggested Cody Rhodes should be given a place on the WrestleMania 40 card to fight Roman Reigns after receiving backlash for initially appearing to be trying to force his way into the pay-per-view line-up, according to reports.
The Rock was expected to be given a WrestleMania showdown with Reigns after appearing on WWE Smackdown at the expense of Rhodes.
However, a late U-turn led to Rhodes being given the chance to end his story with Reigns as the pair prepare to fight for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at the two-day event starting on April 6.
Johnson's return to the WWE universe put him in the spotlight to be challenging for top honours once again, however, supporters weren't impressed with how he was pushing his way past Rhodes for a WrestleMania slot.
Rhodes clashed with both Reigns and Johnson on stage at the event's press conference where he was slapped for insulting his competitors family and heritage.

51-year-old Johnson also fumed at Triple H during an X-rated rant about Rhodes afterward.
But it has now been revealed it was The Rock who backed a heel turn decision for Rhodes to fight Reigns rather than himself.
'There is said to be far more behind the scenes that hasn't come out but, given the timing, can't be talked about now,' said wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer.
It was previously expected that Reigns would fight The Rock at WrestleMania instead
Johnson could still be involved in a potential tag-team match against Rhodes at WrestleMania
'But Johnson over the weekend said it was best to be out of the Reigns match, put Cody in, which by this point everyone conceded by then.
'It was Johnson who then pitched the heel turn and he did pitch the idea of the Reigns & Rock vs. Rhodes & Rollins match for night one. So that was his idea if that is how it turns out...'
There have been further suggestions that Reigns and Rhodes will fight on the opening night of WrestleMania to decide the Universal title ahead of a tag-team match the following evening.
Johnson and Reigns would likely side with each other up against Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, however no tag-team fight has yet been announced.
